How do the calculators actually work?

They run standard, published formulas and conventions — the kind found in any architecture or construction reference — on the numbers you type in. The roof pitch tool applies ordinary rise-over-run trigonometry to get slope angle and the rise-per-12 ratio. The room, material, and cost tools do straightforward area, volume, and coverage arithmetic with a wastage or contingency factor added in. The energy and sustainability scores are weighted point systems built from a handful of inputs (insulation, glazing, HVAC, sealing; renewables, recycled content, water use, passive features) — they are a quick scoring model, not a certified energy audit or a green-building certification.

Where do the numbers and figures come from?

The calculators use widely accepted construction conventions (rise-per-12 pitch notation, standard coverage-and-wastage math, typical per-square-foot cost banding). The Architectural Styles & Iconic Buildings museum and the articles on the blog and in the learn section draw on Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons for their entries, images, and facts, as noted on the museum itself.
